Typheous is a very unique EDC dagger by WE Knives that acts as a fixed-blade knife and folds into a push dagger to be held between the fingers. It stores in a push dagger position in a black leather belt sheath that covers the blade part.
WE Knife Typhoeus Review
Typhoeus is a dual knife that acts as a tactical fixed-blade and a dagger for self-defense. It switches from tactical to practical in one swift motion. The blade is made out of stonewash-finished clip point CPM 20CV stainless steel.
When the knife is in a fixed-blade position, its overall length extends up to 6.25” with a 2.25” blade. When converted into a push dagger, it turns into a 4.5” dagger overall, with a 3” blade. The blade stock thickness is 0.13” with a width of 1.33”. The handle is made from stonewashed-finish gray titanium. It weighs just 3.41 ounces, great for EDC.

Key Specifications of WE Knife Typheous
First Impressions & Unboxing of WE Knife Typhoeus
The tip of the blade came covered in a plastic tip to keep the edge protected, and the knife came in a pristine condition.
It is a rather unconventional knife that holds the fixed-blade and dagger knife positions with a flip of the handle.
It works more like a concealed weapon when in a dagger position because of its small size. When used as a fixed knife, you can carry out EDC tasks with it, although not with much success it seems because of the blade’s size.
The blade’s edge has a resilient action and works well as a push blade. However, it will only work with soft and light surface such as paper and cardboard. If worked on a hard surface, it may injure the hand because of its design. The sheath works well and locks the blade securely into place. The sheath comes with a button to secure the blade and a belt to hang onto the belt.
It is recommended to check your local State laws to see if push daggers are allowed.
The Blade of WE Knife Typhoeus
The blade of WE Typhoeus is a pretty small clip point stonewashed CPM 20CV stainless steel with a plain edge. It has a false edge on one side and a finger choil on the cutting edge. When you flip it into a dagger position, two prominent choils or finger guards protrude out to make holding the knife easier.
The blade is quite small at only 2.25”, but when opened into a dagger position, it opens up a bit more to extend up to 3”. But the 0.75” space is only there for the knuckles. It does not include cutting edge. So the usable blade still remains at 2.25”.
The clip point blade is easy to sharpen because of its design, but the CPM 20CV may make it a bit challenging. Although it is an ultra-premium blade with a high edge retention and corrosion resistance, it has high levels of chromium and is good for piercing. Given the design of this blade, its edge would come in most handy, as it turns into a pointed edge in the dagger position. When used as a fixed-blade, it is good for slicing.
The dagger can also be used as a self-defense mechanism clutched between the knuckles with the blade pointing out. It is also safe for use by those not used to carrying knives.
However, most of the times, it will be used in a fixed-blade position opening packages and envelopes.
The Handle of WE Knife Typhoeus
The handle of WE Knife Typhoeus is a two-way street for the fixed-knife and dagger. It works manually by maneuvering the handle and blade together with index finger and thumb as shown in the image. It works by contracting the handle inwards to turn it from fixed to dagger position, and expanding by pulling to revert it into the fixed-blade position. However, there is no lock to keep the blade in a fixed position. While using the fixed knife, if you push too hard on the spine, it can disentangle to move into a dagger position. However, given the shape and size of the blade, it won’t withstand much pressure anyway.
The length of the handle is only 3.98” and is 0.50” thick, made of titanium and weighs 3.41 ounces. It has bends to support hold and to make knife transition easy. However, it is too small to fit into an average-sized hand. Even in the dagger position, it hardly fits into the hand. Anyone with a large hand would have difficulty holding it comfortably. Especially if someone has bigger knuckles, they may get entangled in the blade spine. It gets too close to the fingers and knuckles when held as a dagger.
Moreover, if you push the knife hard into a surface, it will hurt your hand because of its too-tight size. In untrained hands especially, you have a chance of breaking your fingers, and the handle can close up on you with your skin in between! So it is not very safe in untrained hands, which defeats the purpose of the knife, since it is meant for the layman.
On the other hand, holding it in the fixed-knife position requires not pressing down on the blade, as it will disengage. Unfortunately, our hands are not adapted that way. We use most pocketknives by placing out finger on the spine to put pressure on the tip. That is a great drawback of the Typhoeus.
However, if you tap the knife and it closes in, then the blade would not touch your finger. It will close up around your knuckle behind the choil.
The Typhoeus handle has four pivot screws and only one body screw, which is unusual for an EDC knife. All the screws are T8, but not easy to disassemble to clean and maintain.
The Sheath of WE Knife Typhoeus
The WE Knife Typhoeus comes with a leather belted sheath with a button enclosure. You must store it in the dagger position pressed inside the leather and closed with a button. You can use the belt on the other side to hang it onto your belt or pocket. It is more suited to hang around your belt; or you can carry it inside your purse. The sheath has an important role to play, as the knife does not close with enclosed blade. The blade keeps sticking out, so it is important to conceal it with the sheath for safety.
It is very convenient to carry and comes in high-quality leather that is easy to maintain and clean.
Field Test of WE Knife Typhoeu
The Typhoeus push dagger can be used as a concealed self-defense weapon and an EDC. Although, it is not too comfortable for use. It is easy to carry with the sheath hanging around your belt. But what if you are not wearing a belt? Then you can carry it in your bag or purse, which might make it challenging to take out in case of self-defense.
When used as a fixed-blade knife, the short size of the blade does not make it very versatile. You also have to be careful not to push on the blade with your thumb, or it can close up on your hand. It can perform very simple tasks like cutting paper or cardboard. Therefore, its price does not equal its usability.

WE Knife Typhoeus vs CIVIVI Typhoeus
CIVIVI Typhoeus is also a push dagger just like WE Knife Typhoeus. The difference is that CIVIVI Typhoeus is made from 14C28N steel blade, black stonewashed and flat edge with one sharpened edge. Its handle is made of black G10 and measures up to 6.25” with a blade length of 2.27”. Its handle is 3.98” with an overall push position of 4.53” with a 3.02” width. The blade edges up to 3” in the dagger position with a handle length of 1.53”.
However, it is not much different from WE Typhoeus when it comes to performance, features, and functions. The blade has good edge retention and corrosion resistance. The G10 handle is comfortable and so is the leather sheath.

Conclusion
WE Knife Typhoeus is a fixed-blade and push dagger knife that can be used either way. It is a manual self-defense tool and can be used as a concealed weapon. However, untrained hands may hurt themselves when pushed against a hard surface. It can work well with cutting papers and cardboard.
When used in a fixed-blade position, you have to be careful not to place your finger on the spine, which is hard considering the small size of the handle. It will not fully fit in an average-sized hand. The size of the blade is also too small for comfort. The usability of the knife does not match its price.
The leather sheath however, does not only work well but is essential. Since the blade does not get enclosed and remains exposed, it is important to carry it inside the sheath in a dagger position. The sheath comes with a belt that you can harness with your belt. Otherwise, you can simply carry it in your pocket or bag. When carrying it around your belt, it is easy to take out, but it would be difficult to retrieve when indulged in self-defense.
Therefore, this knife is not very versatile, and may not even be legal in all the States. You must check your local State laws to see if you are allowed to carry it.
